Now that it’s officially October, we’re sure there are some people in your life beaming with excitement over Halloween. After all, spooky season is one of those times of the year that people hate, or are absolutely obsessed with.
Just ask Heidi Klum, Hollywood’s resident Queen of Halloween, who surprises us each year with elaborate and unexpected costumes time and time again. Last year, Klum came dressed as a beautiful peacock with backup models as her feathers and her husband, Tom Kaulitz, as a massive egg. The year before, Klum dressed up as the realistic and equally iconic larger-than-life worm.
So, of course, we can’t wait to see what Klum has in store for us this year in her annual fête. Luckily, she gave SheKnows the inside scoop with three telling clues. “It’s a couple’s costume, it is outer-worldly and I’m not very tall,” she says. Any guesses already?
To add to the costume guessing game, Klum admits that many of her past ideas came from just regular daily life. When she turned 40 and everyone was asking if she’d be retiring from modeling, Klum dressed up as an old 90-year-old lady. When she had a hard time balancing being at work, with her husband and taking care of her four kids, she dressed up as herself and was joined by countless Heidi Klum clones. How iconic was that?
But as we continue to scratch our heads over Klum’s look this year, Klum’s got another exciting project in the works: she’s launching Modelverse, an online virtual fashion experience on Roblox where users can receive exclusive invites to model in the world’s most coveted gatherings, from Klum’s very own Halloween party to the star-studded Met Gala.
“What is different on Modelverse is, for example, that you can choose your avatar, and this avatar has different shapes and sizes, the same way how we all are in different shapes and sizes,” Klum tells SheKnows. “Also, you can bring your own avatar, if you want.”
Klum’s new game was largely inspired by her 14-year-old daughter Lou, who’s a big fan of modeling games. After seeing her daughter get frustrated with the same runways and same models over and over again, Klum decided to take matters into her own hands.
“The fun thing is that I have 13 different runways that are leaning towards different occasions that are happening throughout the year,” she says. “For example, right now is Oktoberfest in Germany, so I have an Oktoberfest runway, or there will be the cherry blossom festival in Japan, or Carnival in Rio, or something fun at the North Pole in December. So each month you will have an amazing, cool runway.”
“I think that my personal style is very eclectic and I like to try all different things depending on my mood and I feel like Modelverse does just that,” Klum adds. “You can be whoever you want to be, wherever you want to be, wear whatever you want to wear, the sky’s the limit!”
