Key Swing State County Flips Republican For First Time In Four Decades

As former President Donald Trump takes on Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race and the swing state of Pennsylvania looks to be a key state for both candidates in this race, former President Donald Trump has gotten great news from one of the longtime Democratic counties in the swing state.

That country is Luzernce County and the great news is that it has, after over four decades of being a Democratic stronghold, flipped to being a red county for Trump. The data showing that Luzerne has flipped comes from the Pennsylvania Department of State and shows that Republicans now hold a slim voter registration advantage in the critical battleground county..

According to that data from the Pennsylvania Department of State, the Republican Party holds a very slight lead of just dozens of voters in the county. As of the latest examination of the voter rolls, the Republican Party has 87,415 registered voters in Luzerne County, and the Democrats have 87,332.

That razor-thin lead of just 83 votes shows that things are trending in the direction of former President Trump, though there are a great many unaffiliated and unaligned voters in the county who could flip it to Harris if motivated to do so: of the 203,321 total registered voters in the county, there are 28,574 voters who are either registered with minor parties or with no party affiliation.

Scott Presler, a widely celebrated GOP activist known for registering Americans to vote in the hope of helping win more parties over to the GOP, celebrated the great news on X (formerly Twitter). He posted, ” WE DID IT! IT IS DONE! We flipped Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, from

Continuing, Presler noted that the news is quite encouraging and shows that the GOP can win, particularly if people volunteer. He said, “MY HEART SINGS! We can do this — we CAN win Pennsylvania. I am so fired up! To anyone in Luzerne County, please visit the GOP HQ & volunteer: 212 Wyoming Avenue Kingston, PA 18704.”

On the other side of thins, however, Luzerne County Democratic Chairman Thomas Shubilla told local media station WVLA that he doesn’t see the voter registration news as a fixed victory for Republicans and that as news breaks for both sides, the voter registration battle will shift back and forth between the parties.

He said, “I have a feeling that those numbers will go back and forth for a little while, periodically.” Continuing, Shubilla said that the voter registration shift to the GOP is “a symbolic victory” for the party as it attempts to win Pennsylvania, but is not the end of the battle for the Democratic Party in the state.

Shubilla said, commenting on how the current news could help the Democrats in the state to get out and volunteer for victory, much as Presler called on Republicans to vote, “I think this will probably create a fire under our volunteers to get more registrants on our side.” He added. “It’s certainly not for lack of trying. We have a lot of great volunteers.”
