Significant police presence as husband of missing Redding woman answers to traffic charges

The husband of missing Shasta County woman Nikki McCain, Tyler McCain, was in court on Monday morning answering to criminal traffic violations, including misdemeanors of driving on a suspended license three separate times and four other infractions. He was sentenced to 12 months of informal probation, 10 work days and must have an alcohol-detecting device in any vehicle he’s in.

There was a significant law enforcement presence outside the courthouse, including marshals and Redding police officers. Kathleen Decker, a friend of Nikki, thinks Tyler got off too lightly.

“I feel like he got a way lighter sentence than he should have,” Decker said. “He should have been deemed a habitual offender, it is obvious by the numerous charges he’s had that he can’t follow the law, that he has no regard for it. So, I see him having a probation violation in his future soon.”

As McCain and his mother were leaving, he was followed by a small group of people asking, “What happened to Nikki?”
